| elhelmete's Full Review: Motorola StarTAC ST7760 CDMA / AMPS Cellular Phone |
I traded up to this phone from perhaps one of the largest: the Qualcomm 2700, so just the sheer reduction in bulk made me a happy camper right off the bat. This phone is still incredibly small and light even when compared to newer models.
I like the flip-phone design as it cuts down a little on junk getting into the keyboard.
It's a good shape too; I actually feel like I'm using a phone-like instrument rather than a little "electric shaver" thingie which so many of the new cell phones seem to emulate. And it travels well on the holster or even bare in a pants pocket.
I can't complain---yet---about battery life except that when I'm in an area of poor coverage it sucks down power faster than other phones in similar situations.
A few little gripes:
Not being able to see caller ID until you open the phone is sort of a pain, especially since I would like to use the phone's answer-upon-opening feature and still have access to caller ID.
The keypad has a few features which are definitely non-intuitive, like the half-blue keys. And the corresponding (supposedly) symbols in the display are confusing.
I wish you could use lowercase letters in the phone book; all uppercase reminds me of bad email etiquette.
##
I have Sprint PCS as my carrier and I have had excellent service from them (which I hear may be unusual, but for me it's true) so I have not had any complaints about this phone which could be attributable to service. (but ask me about Sprint's voicemail and hear me vent!)
