I had been a Cingular customer for a few years. I received a postcard offering me a phone upgrade for a nominal fee. Since the local store would be closed when I get home from work, I got up an hour early and presented the postcard at the store. They looked me up on the computer and said I got a new phone 8 months ago, to which I replied, "so"? "We can't give you a new phone". THEY SENT ME THE POSTCARD!!! They remained firm and I told them I would be canceling my service. I signed up with AT&T wireless which was fine. Just my luck, they were swallowed up by Cingular.
I had two lines with AT&T; one for my wife and one for me. I switched my plan back to a Cingular plan, my wife did not, and was led to believe she would automatically be switched to a comparable Cingular plan. We returned from a 2 week vacation in CA to find her bill which is normally in the $50 range to be OVER $120!!! They put her on a local plan instead of a similar plan to what she had where roaming and long distance is included. A second bill came with more CA calls on it, and all of a sudden they said she owes over $280.
IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH CINGULAR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have spent well over 3 hours on hold in an endless loop of, "for English press 1, please enter you 10 digit #, blah blah blah". I tried to email them, they asked me to logon to my account. When I did, the message "account information unavailable " comes up each time I try, and they show a number I should call. IT'S THE NUMBER I'VE BEEN ON HOLD FOR OVER 3 HOURS ON!!! I feel completely helpless and angry. I am angry enough now to where I will pay the early termination fee to permanently end my relationship with Cingular.
I have had no problem with my phone or coverage, but any time I have had to deal with a Cingular customer service, it has been a nightmare.
