| amyk49's Full Review: Cerama Bryte Cooktop Cleaner |
Several years ago after purchasing my new Maytag gas range, I noticed a bottle of Cerama Bryte Cooktop Cleaner at my local Home Depot. It seemed like a great way to keep my new range clean and shiny, so I bought it on impulse. Wow - what a great impulse purchase this turned out to be!
~ Product Description
Cerama Bryte Cooktop Cleaner is safe for all radiant and halogen glass-ceramic cooktops, and specifically says on the bottle for use on GE, Whirlpool, Maytag, Hotpoint, Amana, Frigidaire, and Kenmore stoves. Of course you could use this on most any brand cooktop or stove as well.
Cerama Bryte is also safe and effective for other household cleaning chores, such as:
- stainless steel sinks
- cultured marble sinks
- porcelain sinks
- glass shower doors
- fiberglass bathing units
- glass cookware (to remove dark marks)
- pots and pans
So as you can see, Cerama Bryte can do a lot more than just clean your stove or cooktop!
Cerama Bryte Cooktop Cleaner comes in a 28 oz. plastic bottle with a flip-up cap. I can't remember now how much I paid for it, but the bottle seems to last forever. My bottle also had a small cleaning pad included, which is useful for scrubbing cooked-on messes. The little pad has a scratchy texture, yet is safe for all ceramic cooktops. The pad is designed for one-time use, but you can rinse it out and use it a few more times, as long as you do not use the same pad to clean a cooktop that you used to clean other surfaces, as it may pick up dirt particles which can scratch your cooktop.
The directions for use say to shake well, then apply Cerama Bryte directly to COOL cooktop and rub with the Cleaning Pad or paper towel. Dry surface with a soft cloth or paper towel. Be sure to close the cap after use.
Some cautions: This is an eye irritant. Do not mix with other household chemicals. Keep out of the reach of children.
There are no ingredients listed on the bottle, other than it contains citric acid. But note that Cerama Bryte contains no phosphates.
~ My Experience
My Maytag range has a porcelain-enamel cooktop with a black finish. The black finish looks absolutely gorgeous, when it's clean. I've found that for general cleaning I'll just wipe up messes with a damp cloth or sponge and dry with a paper towel. But after heavy cooking or when I need to do a more thorough cleaning on my cooktop, using Cerama Bryte Cooktop Cleaner really brings out the shine.
Cerama Bryte is more like a polish than a cleaner, yet it cleans as it polishes. Cerama Bryte is a medium consistency white, creamy liquid. I can't detect any abrasiveness to the cleaner itself. It has a faint sort of citrusy scent, but the scent is mild and I hardly notice it. No fumes to contend with.
If there is any baked-on food, grease or stains, I've found that I need to use the little cleaning pad, as its rough surface can really scrub better than a paper towel. So I just put a little dollop of Cerama Bryte on the cooktop, then spread it around and scrub with the cleaning pad. The cleaner will kind of dry to a white film (think car wax), then I just buff it with a towel or cleaning cloth. I've found that buffing with a cloth works much better than using a paper towel. Note though, that it's not necessary to wait for it to dry, as you would with car wax.
I highly recommend you buy one or several of the little cleaning pads at the same time you purchase Cerama Bryte, if one doesn't come with it. There are many times when just using a paper towel wouldn't easily get off cooked-on spills, and now I always use the Cerama Bryte cleaning pad.
Just the other day I had a bad boil-over with a pot of pasta. Nothing worse than that sticky, starchy water that ends up getting cooked on. Out came the Cerama Bryte, and with a little scrubbing the cooktop was clean and shiny again.
I've also used Cerama Bryte Cooktop Cleaner on my marble bathroom sinks, and my goodness! I've never seem them shine like that before. If I have guests coming I always get out the Cerama Bryte. It also does a nice job on ceramic tile.
~ Final Thoughts
I honestly don't know what I'd do without Cerama Bryte Cooktop Cleaner. While I don't use it every time I clean, it works wonders for stains and cooked-on messes, and truly makes my cooktop shine. Plus I can use it on my marble sinks. Make sure to get the Cerama Bryte cleaning pad, if one doesn't come with the bottle though, because for hard stains and baked-on food, you'll need the extra scrubbing power. I highly recommend Cerama Bryte Cooktop Cleaner.
