| dlstewart's Full Review: Electrasol 2 in 1 Tabs with Jet Dry |
Since I wrote a review about my dishwasher, I thought it would be helpful to write about the two dishwasher soaps that I use in it. Currently, there is a fun television advertisement for the Electrasol 2-in-1 Tabs with Jet-Dry PowerBall that features George Jetson and his robotic dishwasher. The super-smart dishwasher will only use the Electrasol Tabs with Jet-Dry. However, is the robotic dishwasher making the right choice?
Description
The Electrasol Tabs come packaged in a sturdy cardboard cannister with a white plastic lid and silver metal bottom. When the plastic lid is removed, there is a silver foil inner-seal with a tab for easy opening.
Inside the container are individually wrapped tablets that measure 1 1/2" long x 1" wide x 3/4" high. Each tablet is wrapped in clear plastic. Intriguing in design, about a quarter of the tablet is colored blue with the remainder colored white. In the top of the blue section is an indentation where a Jet-Dry PowerBall is inserted. The PowerBall is affixed into the tablet so that it is one unit.
The cannister of Electrasol Tabs in front of me holds 55 tablets (155 ounces). The cannister is tall at 8 1/2" with a 5" diameter. In my area, I can also purchase these tablets in 20-tablet, 26-tablet or 75-tablet packages. I have seen four scents available: Regular Scent, Green Apple, Orange Blossom or Lemon.
My Experiences
The Electrasol cannister is easy to open, and the foil inner-seal insures that you are receiving a full cannister of tablets. Grab the foil tab, and give it a tug to pull it free from the metal rim.
These tablets are very easy to use. Simply remove one from the cannister and rip open the clear plastic to release the tablet. Then insert the tablet into the dishwasher soap dispenser, close the dispenser door, shut the dishwasher and start it cleaning. Only one tablet is needed to do a load of dishes.
Before using these tablets, I used a dishwashing powder and a bottle of Jet-Dry. Since these tablets come with built-in Jet-Dry, I dont need to fuss with two dishwashing cleaners. Using these tablets is fast and easy. There is no mess, either.
This product works great, too. The tablet is divided into two colors. The blue color contains a special cleaning agent that breaks down stubborn hard-to-remove foods (such as food that dries onto dishes). The white layer is a super-concentrated detergent that gently scrubs while also removing stains. A small Jet-Dry bead (called a PowerBall) is inserted into the blue layer, and the Jet-Dry helps eliminate spots on glasses and dishware. The tablets completely dissolve in the washer, too. This combination of cleaning and rinse agents does an excellent job of cleaning my dishes and is safe for septic tanks.
I have tried two varieties of this product: the Regular scent and the Orange Blossom scent. The regular scent smelled just like Electrasol powder, a clean scent that did not overpower my nose. Opening the cannister of Orange Blossom scented tablets was a treat. A gentle orange scent wafted out of the package. When using either of these scents, I did not notice any fragrance while the dishes were washing or when I opened the dishwasher to unload the clean dishes. I even left open the cannister of Orange Blossom tablets while writing this review, and the smell never became overpowering ... its a gentle fragrance.
Not everyone in my family rinses the dishes before placing them in the dishwasher. Sometimes plates loaded with spaghetti sauce, crumbly remains of a casserole or other dishes splattered with food remains are loaded into the washer. These Electrasol Tabs with Jet-Dry easily clean the dishes, and the dishes come out of the washer clean and spot free.
Ingredients & Safety Cautions
Keep this product away from children. As with most cleaners, this product is harmful if swallowed and can cause eye irritation.
Here are the cautions from the packaging:
First Aid Treatment: If swallowed, rinse mouth and drink a glass of water. Call a physician or Poison Control Center. In case of eye contact, immediately rinse eyes with plenty of water. Remove any contact lenses and continue rinsing eyes for at least 15 minutes. If irritation persists, get medical attention. Contains sodium carbonate, enzymes.
Phosphorous Content: The formula in Electrasol detergent tablets averages not more than 8.7% phosphorus by weight, in the form of phosphates, which is equivalent to 1.74 grams per tablet.
Purchasing
I purchased the Orange Blossom scented Electrasol Tabs at my local BJs Wholesale Club for $7.99 (which means each tablet costs 14 1/2 cents). If I had purchased the 75-tablet package of the regular scent at BJs, it would only have cost me $8.87 (which equals 12 cents a tablet). But I paid the extra money to give the Orange scent a try ... and I like it.
Summary
I am pleased with the cleaning ability of Electrasol Tabs with Jet-Dry. I like both this product and Cascade 2-in-1 Action Pacs. They both do an excellent job of cleaning my dishes. If you forced me to choose which one cleaned better ... I would choose (by a very slim margin) the Cascade 2-in-1 Action Pacs. One thing that keeps me coming back to this Electrasol product is the built-in Jet-Dry PowerBall. Its just like using the Jet-Dry rinse without all the fuss, and I like running Jet-Dry through the dishwasher every now and then. As an interesting bit of trivia: Electrasol is the first automatic dishwashing detergent created. It was invented in 1948.
I hope you have found this review useful.
