jaxzwolf's Full Review: The Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time for Nintendo 6...
Never before have I played a game quite like this... The unbelievable graphics, characters, plots, and weapons leave such a trail that you never can quite escape from it.
I was drawn into the world of Zelda about six years ago, when a friend of mine let me borrow the game. I was instantly hooked. I played it every day, beat it several times, and kept it much longer than my friend had intended. A few years later I decided I had to have a copy of my own, but had a lot of trouble getting a hold of one. Thanks to ebay, I was saved.
Nintendo broke the mold of gameplay with their first release of a Zelda game so many years ago on the NES system. It was the first in gaming history to allow a "go anywhere" type of world, and was the first savable game ever released. Since then, Nintendo has come up with so many others, but none will top Ocarina of Time.
In this installment of the Zelda "series" we finally learn the story of the life of our hero, Link. Saved by his mother from certain death, she left him in Kokiri Forest as a baby, then died. Alone in the world, Link matures with the Kokiri people, children who never grow up. He makes many friends, but soon comes to realize that he is different from all the others in the forest. His dreams become troubled, and the once friendly forest seems less his home. Soon he is called upon by the Great Deku Tree, the forest's guardian spirit.
There he is told of his past, and his possible future. The tree pleads with Link to awaken to his destiny against an evil man, Ganondorf, who plans to rule the world. Link must complete an epic journey to save his Hyrule, the world in which he lives, and the forest that lies within it.
To being his journey Link must find three spiritual stones and unlock the triforce, a relic that holds the balance of power in Hyrule steady, one left by the goddesses that created Link's world, and the very one which Ganondorf needs to begin his evil reign.
As Link completes his travel he is befriended by many people/creatures and visits a vast many places. He soon finds the power of the Ocarina of Time, and uses it to travel back and forth between his childhood and adulthood to solve puzzles and unlock new challenges.
His world is rich and entertaining, the music score is varied, lively, and suits gameplay perfectly, giving the right feel to each new world. Graphics are stunning for the Nintendo 64, and do justice to the capabilities of the system.
Link, along with many characters in his quest, is bestowed with new items and weapons, everything from his sword to bottles, a hookshot, and bow and arrows. Each item has a specific function and is needed to complete various tasks. Link travels through a series of dungeons to complete major tasks, and towns and cities provide relief from serious gameplay. Each town offers several "side quests" which can be completed at any time.
All in all Link's world is rich, inviting, and entertaining. The plot is amazing and interesting, and the puzzles and challenges Link faces keeps gamers busy, and happy, for hours. This game is a must have! No Nintendo 64 owner, avid gamer, or fan of Zelda should go without it! It is the epic masterpiece of a legendary world, and the greatest game Nintendo has ever conjured!
