Good tech support response times do not a good ISP make!

I became aware of this ISP via the Kim Komando newsletter. Checking previous user comments made me aware of some concerns, but I was dissatisfied enough with my old ISP that I elected to change to Intergate.
Its fine print noted that NO REFUNDS were given (for any reason) for a prepaid year-long contract, which should have been a red flag. But I signed on for a year to get the lower rate ($8.25 a month).
Tech support response time is the one area I found good. In response time, it was fine, but its answers to my problems usually were not helpful in alleviating or curing my problems.
After a few weeks of use, service deteriorated quickly. To be sure my concerns were accurate, I logged problems for 31 days. My area has 6 local dial-up numbers. None was reliable. In those 31 days, I was able to log on the first try just 9 days. Of the other 22 days, it took anywhere from 2 - 6 tries to get online. Even then, I was disconnected over 50 times. Even during downloads, which was maddening! Disconnects occurred anywhere from a few seconds to an hour after being connected. Since few busy signals were encountered, it appeared the local dial-up numbers were not busy, but servers at Intergate were.
$8.25 per month for service sounds good until you realize you are often spending 30 or more minutes a day just trying to log on.
Caveat emptor! I suggest a trial period, on the monthly payment plan, to make sure you get consistent good service in your area before paying for a year's contract with no possibility of a refund should service deteriorate.
