| kparsons13's Full Review: Martha Stewart Everyday Pop-Up Hamper |
Last weekend, my dryer broke and since maintenance is only 24 hours for emergencies, I decided to wait until Monday to call them in. Until then, I would have to use the apartments laundry mats that are scattered throughout our complex. It is something I have never done, but my fiancé and I found our quarters and took the heavy wet clothes over there. If we didnt, they would get moldy so on our way we were.
The plastic laundry basket that we have was not large enough for all of the wet clothes as some of them were hanging over the edges. It was also awkward to carry the plastic hamper across the complex as you had to use the handles to hold it in front you. I didnt like it.
After this issue, I realized that we needed two laundry baskets or some sort of hamper to rectify our laundry situation. We had been discussing this anyways since it always seemed their were clothes to take out of our dryer and the laundry basket was full of dirty clothes and there were clothes already in the washer wet waiting for you. So you have to do that keep all your clothes in your hands dance until you get to the bedroom to fold them losing socks on the way there. I hate that.
So when we were at Super Kmart I figured I could find something cheap to help us out of this horrid laundry cycle. Since I was already in the Martha Stewart Everyday Collection, I decided to see what she had and all I saw was this pop up hamper. It was white and mesh from what I could see in the picture. I also noticed two different type of handles. There also looked like a side pocket but I wasnt sure. I also liked the fact that it looked attractive. It was only 6.99 so I thought we could try it and see what happened. It wasnt an investment of a lifetime and if it didnt work out we could go back and get something else.
It was called the Martha Stewart Everyday Pop-Up Hamper. It came in a small package so I looked at the dimensions which seemed decent but you never really know until you have it in front of you. The dimensions on the packaging are:
14 in width
14 in depth
23 in height
So when we got home, I didnt bother to read the back of the packaging and opened up the plastic to get at the Martha Stewart Everyday Pop-Up Hamper. There was a thick one inch white elastic band around it and I took that off. Well from there it flew open knocking my fiancé in the face. It was really funny the power the hamper had. Then about five minutes later I read the back of the packaging and here is what it states:
Before letting the hamper pop up, make sure there is a sufficient distance between you and any objects around you.
1. Hold the folded hamper tightly when removing it from the bag
2. Keep a firm hold on the hamper as you slowly unfold it is a flat rectangle.
3. Unfold the side pieces of the hamper
4. Pull the center pieces away from eachother
5. Hamper will pop up
Caution: Small children should not be allowed to fold or unfold this hamper without direct supervision of an adult.
Well little old impatient me could have prevented that knick in my fiances nose from the bouncy Martha Stewart Everyday Pop-Up Hamper. It was my mistake and one that I will never make again. I have Popped-Up the hamper several times since then, and it really could be a weapon so PLEASE dont be silly and impatient like me, OPEN SLOWLY and CAREFULLY as recommended.
Okay so we got the hamper open and then I wasnt sure if I really liked it. The Martha Stewart Everyday Pop-Up Hamper was attractive to look at in white. But then I thought? If toted anywhere it would get dirty pretty fast. Then my fiancé asked where I planned going with it except across the carpet to our own laundry room in our own apartment. It was a decent point to make but still it is white, so you may get it dirty and it isnt washable from what I can see unless you hand wash it.
The way the Martha Stewart Everyday Pop-Up Hamper is set up is it has four sides that are mesh and one side has a deep mesh pocket. The bottom of the hamper is white nylon that seems durable. The top of the hamper is a circle of nylon to keep the walls together and the opening is about 11 inches in diameter. Here is the part I really like it has two types of handles. It has reach-through handles to carry in front of you. It also has longer thick handles made of durable nylon I believe and you can throw it over your shoulder comfortably. It was this little feature that had me sold on it. The Martha Stewart Everyday Pop-Up Hamper is sturdy for only being plastic and bendable wiring to hold everything up. It is wide enough on the bottom that it isnt tipsy.
Okay I am really looking at it now and all together for $6.99 it is a nice deal. I only wish it was washable. You cant push in the sides very much as it retains the walls well. The reach through handles are comfortable as well. The longer handles are great. The mesh allows for ventilation (from packaging) so that your dirty clothes dont stink anything up. It holds two loads of laundry well and is still comfortable enough to throw over your shoulder and take with you to the laundry mat.
My fiancé and I used to travel a lot before I had my breakdown last year. In any case, this is a perfect travel hamper as well to throw your dirty clothes into. The Martha Stewart Everyday Pop-Up Hamper folds up into a 7 diameter with an elastic band to secure it on your way to your destination. Then once their you can set it up to throw your clothes in and keep them separate from the clean ones and then just take the Martha Stewart Everyday Pop-Up Hamper with you when you leave and put it into your car. There you go, you have your clothes separated when you get home! So if I ever start getting out of the house more than 1-2 times a week, and we start traveling again, this will definitely be put in the suitcase to bring along.

All in all the Martha Stewart Everyday Pop-Up Hamper is a great addition to my laundry needs. It is durable, strong to hold at least 2 loads of clothes, two handles that make it easier for carrying purposes, a side pocked for separates like delicate items, and is also attractive to look at. It only cost me $6.99 which on my budget was perfect. Yeah, I would say the Martha Stewart Everyday Collection is onto something with the Martha Stewart Everyday Pop-Up Hamper. I just wish it came in different colors which I will suggest. Other wise, I am a happy camper and the Martha Stewart Everyday Pop-Up Hamper is perfect. Try it out I doubt you will be sorry. The craftsmanship is solid and sturdy. Enjoy the Martha Stewart Everyday Pop-Up Hamper!
Until next time,
