Buy.com is a website that is very popular throughout the U.S. Its known to be as the second Amazon as it sells brand new products from almost any company you can think of. It claims that it has over one million products to offer, but you can only buy these items after making an account.
Making An Account
Making an account takes a bit of time, but it is more time consuming over dificultness of doing. The process is to have most of the fields completed when you're on the ordering page. All you have to do is type in your credit card number and type of credit card. It asks you simple questions like:
What is your...?
*Email Address
*Company Name
*Address
*City
*State
*Zip Code
*Home Phone #
*Company Phone #
*Fax #
Products & Layout
Buy.com has a simple and easy to use layout. Like epinions layout, it is split into different shopping categories. You can find these categories at the top of the home page. These categories are:
*Computers
*Software
*Electronics
*Cellular
*Music
*Games
*Sports
*DVDs
*Books
*Bags
*Clearance
Further down the home page are promotional offers and sales. There you can find discounts on different items such as video cameras, PCs, DVDs, routers, projectors and cell phones. Along with information on the products, you can see the price it was before the mark-down.
Products are from companies that youve actually heard of including Panasonic, Dell, Sony, Columbia Records, Nokia and Spalding. They have brand new cds and up-to-date dvds. Its just like stopping by J&R or Best Buy - the newest items are always available, and the prices seem to be a bit cheaper than at the store.
My Experience
I decided to use Buy.com for a D-Link Router. I found it easily when looking under the computers area of the site. I found a great price at $80 including shipping and handling. That may actually be considered to be exceptional.
Buy.com allows these credit cards:
*Visa
*MasterCard
*American Express
*Discover
*Diners Club
I used my Delta SkyMiles American Express card since I need more frequent flier miles for a free round-trip to Greece. The credit card transaction worked well and I got a confirmation email right after ordering.
The router arrived 14 days (2-weeks) after ordering. There was rush-service available, but I didnt see any need for it. For you experienced online shoppers, you know that two weeks is pretty poor for delivery of a product. It would have been nice had the router arrived a bit earlier, but it wasnt a big deal.
Im glad to say that the router arrived in mint condition. It arrived packaged tightly and without a scratch on it.
Cool Stuff
Buy.com has cool features that some websites dont have, but some are essential. These cool features include:
*Track Your Order
*Report Missing Order
*View Shipping Rates
*Return A Product
*Redeem/Buy Gift Certificates
*Help Center
Conclusion
Overall, Buy.com is a good website. Its easy to navigate and has brand names. There are also the newest products available, so it makes it a whole lot easier than going out to the store and buying it there. The only bad thing about it was that it took such a long time for the router to arrive. Overall, I would recommend the website.
