| youngdesign's Full Review: Apple Studio Monitor |
I have had a terrible time with my Apple 21" studio display monitors. My first two brand new monitors broke within the first few months of operation. They worked beautifully and flawlessly for the first several weeks of use but unexpectedly started to flicker and turn several shades of magenta. The problem is unpredictable and intermittent. My consultant says it sounds like the problem is caused by the green gun misfiring and therefore is a hardware issue.
Apple Service has told me there are no known problems with this monitor and that I have bad luck and received two bad monitors. They say it is rare but can happen so they are sending me a third monitor but I don't feel the problem is bad luck but a bad product.
Apple can offer me no solutions as to the source of the problem. Their first GUESS (OTHER THAN BAD LUCK) is that there must be something within our office causing the monitors to break (i.e. bad electricity). Ironically, it is the only "Apple" brand monitor in the office and is the only one experiencing these problems. Therefore, I find it unlikely that the problem is an environmental issue or else other monitors within the office would be experience problems. However, Apple will NOT send a technician on site and they say it does not seem to be software conflicts causing the problem either. I have connected the monitor to other CPU's in the office and the problems still persist. The resolution and connections are set up properly too.
It has been frustrating dealing with apple's service center because they just keep sending me replacement monitors rather than helping me find the source of the problem. When these monitors work properly they are wonderful but I am starting to believe that they are VERY UNRELIABLE. Apple made me send the first monitor via FedEx twice to the service center for repair (NO SUCESS ) before they agreed to send me a replacement monitor (which is now broken). This whole process has been extremely disruptive and costly. I will have a final rating after I use my third monitor for a month or two but I have NO confidence that it is going to work reliably for me.
