I picked up this card to replace my SoundBlaster AWE64. I immediately noticed a huge difference in the overall sound quality of this card. Then there is the whole 4 channel EAX surround that this card is capable of putting out, provided the game you are using supports it, and almost all the latest titles do. Not only do games benefit from having the action and sound completely surround you (naturally you will need 4 speakers for this) but the Environmental Audio software control panel gives you basically DSP (digital signal processing) and that is fantastic for listening to cds or mp3s. I have found that the "Auditorium" setting, with the master reverb set at 33-35 is the best for almost any album. (The preset is set at 40 but I found that to be just a little too much) It gives just enough depth to even studio material. BTW, you can find this card on the 'net in an O.E.M. "white box" for less than $45, so unless you can't bear to wait a few days to get it mail order, get the retail package, but you will end up paying about double that way. Even at $100 or so, its still worth every penny.
