Good Value
by clipper965 ,Dec 13 '04
Pros: Value, comfort, reliability, quiet ride, roomy cargo bay, freezing Air Conditioner, good stereo, excellent visability Cons: Plastic bumper mounted fog lights
I own a silver 2003 XLS and mine was a former rental so I was able to lease it at a very attractive price. Mitsubishi quality is below par compared to TOYOTA but I think for what I paid it was a good value. Mitsublishi's depreciate worse than many American cars so dicker the lowest price possible. One issue are the Plastic bumper mounted fog lights,I see Monteros all over with them cracked due to slight taps from other cars.Interior materials below par with Toyota and other Japanese cars in terms of durability and quality.

Roll Over
by martinlaurab ,Sep 18 '03
Pros: Smooth styling, rugged construction, excellent towing, No blind spots, Large cargo area
Cons: Top heavy, no automatic steering capability, bad gas mileage
I bought this car 10 months ago shortly after they began arriving at the dealership. I have enjoyed it and felt safe while driving with my 11 month old. However, after what happened to me today I would like you to take into consideration the "rollover factor". I was forced off the road by an 18 wheeler on my way to work, the Montero spun around and I flipped it 5 times. Believe it or not, I walked away. The car is totaled. I have to applaud Mitsubishi for its quality construction, the inside of that vehicle remained remarkably well intact. The steering column did not break and my seat belt saved my life. However, for the money I spent I could have bought a car with a much better safety profile. So, while I have enjoyed this car I would urge others who are considering purchasing this item to carefully consider what aspects of a vehicle are most important to them. Needless to say mine will be safety in crash testing and accident avoidance ability.
