| hondaman's Full Review: 2000 Honda Civic 4 door |
I have always loved Honda, when I met my wife and bought a 93 Ford Escort (purely for financial reasons) It was a sacrifice because I really wanted a Civic. The escort was OK but I lost the AC and had transmission problems, but it got me thru the tough times.
Now to the Point!
I recently purchased a new 2001 Civic LX Titanium Metallic. It is a wonderful compact car with as much room as an Altima and a quality you can expect from Honda.
I did my homework and was able to get a great deal on the car. I opted to get the LX and add the rear cupholder myself. The cup holder was the only reason we had to upgrade to the EX version. Not a very good Idea for the money and the fact that the dealer would not move on that price. I could have gotten a leftover 2000 for the same price but why if you can have the latest and greatest.
The only other option I wanted was the ABS but that is only available on the EX. As I have owned two cars with it and never activated them, we also drive very conservitively, I opted for none. By the way, if you are handy, buy the options aftermarket and say big $$$. Try Honda-Accessories.com. They give you all the instructions to make it simple.
The controls and interior are nice with quality feel to the touch. Everything is where you would expect it and easy to see in the dark. The interior is quieter than the previous years but still alittle noisy, but what do you expect for a compact car not from Mercedes.
The fit and finish is wonderful and the fuel economy is also wonderful.
You can see well except for backing. The headrests get into the way and the high inside sill also gets in the way. It just takes some getting used to.
I have a 97 Plymouth minivan and the headlights are really poor, but this little car outshines then 3 time and is better directed.
There is gobs of space. The trunk is easy to access and the rear seats have loads of leg room. Very important for the kids. Also every seat has 3 point belts!
Family, single with friends, anyone would love this stylish and economical, dependable car. Easy to get into and out of. Lots of room for kids and friends. Highly recommend.
Oh yeah, they changed the front suspension to Strut to obtain a 5 Star crash worthiness rating. Although I like the idea of the double wishbone suspension, I like the crash worthiness even better. Also, the car rides nicer than the 2000. So higher technology may not be better.
