Slow and ineffective service. by ronkeren ,Mar 22 '08
Reserved on Avis.com, when arrived FT Lauderdale airport the agent could not find my reservations, took 5 minutes to finally located my reservation. Slow and ineffective service.
Avis is absolutely rotten. I recently rented a car through price line. When I received the car, it had...suspicious...white stains on the seat, the front and rear bumper was damaged and grease marks all over it. On top of that, the woman at the check out desk had the nastiest attitude on the planet. As a parting shot, they stole my cellphone (I left it in the car for two minutes and that was more than enough time for their thieving personnel to steal it and turn it off so that it wouldn't ring). Of course, I complained and they offered a coupon for a few pennies off on my next rental. As if I'll EVER rent anything from this rotten company again... If you visit Raleigh NC - remember my experience when renting a car at the Avis airport office.
Avis Rent a Car online special with Amex. You won't save what you expect. by atlanta_ed ,Sep 05 '06
Avis and American Express need to be on the same page. I made a reservation online at Avis.com using a link mentioning discounts at neighborhood Avis outlets using the Amex card. I printed the reservation sheet that details the estimated cost and specifically notes the coupon discounts are not included in the estimate but are calculated at the rental counter. I also printed what I thought was coupon that mentions a specific discount code and instructs me to present at time of rental. When I took it to the Avis agency, the CSR(?) told me it wasn't a coupon and that the discount had already been taken in the estimated price.
How was I to know? I made my decision to use Avis based on the estimate online and the note that said coupon discounts are not included in this estimate. I expected 25% less, which led me to using Avis over a local outlet.
Avis and Amex need to make sure that online estimates are accurate. I've used Avis numerous times (will probably continue to do so), but am very frustrated with this experience.
Fradulent Charges!!! Do Not Rent From Avis!! by lmnorman ,Apr 14 '09
Terrible customer service. I rented a car for one day and 16 hours. We pick the car up on Friday at 2:00 p.m. and returned it on Sunday at 5:00a.m.. The Avis counter at the airport was not open at 5:00 am, so as instructed by the Avis employee who rented us the car, we parked the car in the Avis lot and placed the keys in the Avis drop box. My estimated charge was $68.00. Avis billed me for an entire week of rental which was charged to my debit card in the amount of $684.34. So naturally, I called to dispute the charge. They instructed me to fax them a copy of my airline boarding pass to prove that I left the airport on Sunday, so I did. Avis informed me that it would take 24 - 48 hours to review my dispute and credit my account. It's been six business days and nothing. I called them today to check the status and I was informed that "Avis would let me know if and when they decide to credit my account". NEVER AGAIN!!!!! AVIS is incompetent and their customer service sub-standard! I will never rent from them again!
I rented a car from them last week, got a quote for 320 dollars total for 5 days. When I returned the car, they gave me a bill for 600 dollars, showing lots of surprise charges, fees and mileage charges, none of which was disclosed to me at check in. No amount of complaining helped -- they adamantly refused to remove the charges. I canceled my "Preferred" account, filed a dispute with my credit card, and will never use AVIS again. I don't know where they find the people who work for them, but to put it mildly, they are very rude and incompetent. Last month when I rented from them, there was a woman in line in front of me, going ballistic over her bill and demanding to remove extra charges and fees. It took her almost an hour and everyone had to wait in line.
"We try harder?" Give me a break! I would avoid AVIS at all costs.
Should tell Customers at town desks: "no airline miles" by danairozo ,Jun 03 '04
Avis is nice, but Remember your AWD code like K019300 for United Airlines Frequent Flyer mileage (50 miles per day). Sometimes, the Avis person even if they are the Manager of an outlet, are not clear on Mileage issues. In February, I rented a Cavalier for 3 days. Now it is June 3, and a Representative through online mail tells me that "Mileage can only be earned if you pick up an Avis car at an Airport". I did do that with Avis in Paris deGaulle Airport and that was a very smooth purchase and a great Rep. there (Laurenc).
If I had known that there was no mileage possible with Avis at downtown location here in Visalia, Cal., I would have gone out to the Airport and maybe would have rented an Enterprise car. Avis prices seem very fair (maybe a little cheaper than Hertz). I like just giving my Wizard Number and things get done nicely.
I've been trying to get answers via email using customer service email forms on avis.com for over a month. No acknowledgement of the emails and no response. Many people prefer to interact via email and the use of customer service emails from the site is very important. They are apparently going in to a black hole. The thing you learn as a Freshman student in Web Site design and eMarketing is to be sure you have the back-end process worked out to respond to customers. Avis failed Freshman eMarketing.
